Our PhD student Josip Marić presented a research paper titled DEBS grand challenge: real-time detection of air quality improvement with Apache Flink at the 15th ACM International Conference on Distributed and Event-based Systems which was organized from June 28th to July 2nd 2021. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the conference was organised online.

The presented paper has won both the performance and audience awards.

Over the past decade, the ACM International Conference on Distributed and Event‐based Systems (DEBS) has become the premier venue for cutting-edge research in the field of event processing and distributed computing, and the integration of distributed and event-based systems in relevant domains such as Big Data, AI/ML, IoT, and Blockchain. The objectives of the ACM International Conference on Distributed and Event‐Based Systems (DEBS) are to provide a forum dedicated to the dissemination of original research, the discussion of practical insights, and the reporting of experiences relevant to distributed systems and event‐based computing. The conference aims at providing a forum for academia and industry to exchange ideas through its tutorials, research papers, and the Grand Challenge.

Our PI Krešimir Pripužić presented a research paper titled Forecasting water level and discharge in the Kupa river basin at the 8th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe which was organized from June 28th to July 1th 2021. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the congress was organised in hybrid form.

The main topic of the congress, Sustainable geographies in the heart of Europe, refers to the passion geographers have for the exploration of the world that surrounds us. Understanding complexity and fragility of geographical environment as well as of the own discipline has been an essential part of many geographical efforts. The congress is open to all geographers, physical and human alike, and to any interested scholars from related disciplines. The participation of young scholars and PhD candidates, independent scholars, as well as researchers applying multidisciplinary approaches is encouraged.

Siniša Sovilj presented a research...

Our researcher Siniša Sovilj presented a research paper titled System Dynamics Modelling with Kotlin: From Hierarchical Models to Interactive Simulators at the 38th International Conference of the System Dynamics Society which was organized from July 20th to July 22nd 2020. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the conference was organised online.

This year's conference theme was “Hindsight in 2020: learning from the past to inspire the future.” “Hindsight is 20/20” implies it is easy in retrospect to “see” why events unfolded as they did, but it is much harder to accurately anticipate the outcome in advance. In the scientific practice of System Dynamics, concern about such “hindsight bias” compels us to formalize behavioral expectations a priori, before testing dynamic hypotheses of feedback mechanisms, so that the value of a model for producing new insights can be established relative to these expectations. The program included topics relating to the theory and practical application of system dynamics modeling in 15 different thread areas.

Aleksandar and Martina Antonić...

Our researchers Aleksandar and Martina Antonić published a research paper titled Performance Modeling of Publish/Subscribe Middleware Components in the Proceedings of the 2020 IEEE 44th Annual Computers, Software, and Applications Conference (COMPSAC). The conference was organized online from July 13rd to July 17th 2020. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the decision has been made to transform COMPSAC 2020 into an all-digital conference and thus paper presentations sessions were cancelled, unfortunatelly.

COMPSAC is the IEEE Computer Society Signature Conference on Computers, Software and Applications. It is a major international forum for academia, industry, and government to discuss research results and advancements, emerging problems, and future trends in computer and software technologies and applications. The technical program includes keynote addresses, research papers, industrial case studies, plenary and specialized panels, fast abstracts, a doctoral symposium, poster sessions, and a number of workshops and tutorials on emerging and important topics.
